Pet PassportsSince 2000 the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) has allowed cats and dogs to enter the UK without having to be placed in quarantine. Evolution Animal Care has already issued dozens of pet passports to enable owners and pets to travel abroad together on holiday. If you are considering using the PET Scheme we advise you to start the process at least 8 months prior to your planned departure date. For the very latest information on taking your pet abroad visit the DEFRA website: www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/index.htm or contact their Helpline on 0870 2411710. WormingWe recommend that puppies & kittens are wormed monthly for the first year of life. Young animals commonly have heavy worm burdens which can even be life threatening. Worms can also cause blindness in children, so worming is even more important when there are young children about. In adult dogs & cats we recommend worming every 3 months, although this may need to be done more often especially in cats which hunt, because they can pick up tapeworms from their prey. We recommend Milbemax as it is highly effective against round & tapeworms. FleasFleas are a common problem in dogs & cats, they cause much irritation so it is best to avoid them. We recommend the use of Frontline combo, which is easily applied to the back of the neck. It lasts 2 months in dogs and 5 weeks in cats. Frontline combo not only kills fleas but also stops them breeding. It also eliminates ticks & lice. MicrochippingThe majority of dogs and cats wear a collar with a tag attached but there is always the worry of animals losing their collars and becoming unidentifiable. It is possible for us to insert a microchip under your pet's skin to give them a permanent method of identification. The microchip is the size of a grain of rice and has a unique number, which can be read with a scanner. All vet practices, most police dog wardens and RSPCA centres have scanners which are used in the hope of identifying strays and reuniting them with their families. The unique number is recorded on a central computer so that one phone call will enable us to establish the owners name, address and telephone number. Implanting can be done during a consultation or anaesthetic procedure such as neutering. We commonly microchip dogs and cats but it is also possible to microchip tortoises & birds of a certain size. Feel free to ask about microchipping at your next vaccination or call for more information. We charge only £14.99 for this service. |
